Hi there I may be moving from GA to MD for a job @ Fort Meade but we like an Olney school for our son. If we live in Olney, how the metro commute or driving commute? i hate traffic and would rather search for a good school/area to live closer to Fort Meade rather than sit in traffic o get to work but if I can take metro in, thats cool w/ me. Any suggestions?

The new Gaithersburg to Fort Meade bus stops near Olney, right off Georgia and takes the new ICC tollway.
MTA ICC Bus Routes

Olney does not have METRO or MARC access.
MARC may go to Meade, but you would have to live along the route...never taken MARC so not really sure.

As the above poster indicated - no metrorail. If driving is an option, you can take 108 or local roads (Bordly/Brighton Dam) to 32 E. I'm guessing its about 15 or so miles. Time of travel will depend on traffic/weather. But having taken those routes in the past (not necessarily to Ft. Mead), I know 32 to 95 has gotten a lot busier in the last few years. But if you have the ability to alter your schedule, that will also help. I'd guess at 25-40 minutes?

How set are you on Olney? Obviously, the closer you move to Ft. Mead, the easier your commute. Public school wise, there are also very good options in Howard County, which will put you closer.
