Hello everyone, I am currently on plans to start working in the Navy Yard in DC and have been looking around for input in where to move. I have been researching the greenbelt but need more input from people living there. Any input is appreciated. From what I am reading, it looks like cirme in Maryland is higher, which worries me as I have a japanese wife and she is used to lower crime areas.

-Where you are working: Navy Yard, Washington DC.

-How much you are willing to spend on housing: 700 to 1500

-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate: as long as I can walk to the metro or take a reliable bus, I dont mind up to 1 hour 20 minutes.

-If you have kids: Private school or public school? No kids.

-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight? a city environment or suburban, doesnt matter, I prefer to have most things within walking distance

-Community amenities important to you: low crime if possible, another plus would be a place with utilities included.

Thanks again

Greenbelt is in Prince Georges County (PG County) and is not the place to move to if you don't want crime. I'd suggest Anne Arundel County as it's a 45 minute drive to DC and you can access the Metro from there if needed. AACO has it's share of crime, too, but nowhere near as bad as PG.

Give Hyattsville a look; you're on the Green line, same as the Navy Yard. Great small town feel on the edge of DC. Quite walkable. Crime reports for the city are posted here -- Hyattsville, MD - Official Website - Stay Informed - Police Reports & More . There is crime in the city, but it really isn't as bad as some people would make you think. Those stats are from the City of Hyattsville; there are a number of areas outside the city limits that have a Hyattsville ZIP Code and that have a higher incidence of crime, which sometimes leaves the impression that things are worse in Hyattsville than they really are.
