i dont believe you'd have to worry about any adverse possession- if the water remains low, it would still be considered waterfront/wetlands, with all kinds of protections

here is a pdf, of maine shoreland zoning regulations/laws

My last response was too obscure. On Graham Lake when the water level drops dramatically folks feel free to race ATVs and pickup trucks along the lake bed in front of the house. I was told by the company that owns the hydro damn that the lake bed is still owned by the original landowners and that their heirs should be contacted about any trespassing violations- yeah right! After contacting several local and state offices about public use of private access to the lake bed and getting nowhere I decided to take the issue off my worry list. After all while the water level fluctuates every year it is only every 6 or 7 years that it drops low enough to hold the Daytona 500 in front of our home

Snowmobiles aren't as bad. The noise and exhaust from them isn't so nice, but other than that there's little harm, plus I guess I can't blame people for wanting an excuse to get outside in the winter to do something.

Although it would be better if those people took up iceboating instead, whch would be much more fun for all concerned and easier on the natural habitat and its peaceful nature.

Our camp is 45' from the waters edge, the snowmobiles are going by about 20' from the edge of the lake, at about 50mph.

I kind of thought they'd be out in the middle of the lake, at least.

I feel for you.

I gotta say this: how can anyone be so vacuous as to have nothing better to do than spend time zooming around in those obnoxious things?

Same goes for ATV's, motorcycles, jet-skis, speedboats, and fast cars.

What a boring--not to mention unhealthy--waste of one's time and resources.

(But I know, I know--when I'm in Maine, I will keep my opion on such matters to myself.)

You might want to check and see if driving ATV's on a lake bed is legal. I think they had this happen in Newport and will prosecute anyone found disrupting the lake bed during the draw down. If Graham lake is a water supply, doesn't the town have any say on this?

Graham isn't the city's water supply and it's actually a hydro-electric reservoir. I'm sure it breaks some rule or law to race along the exposed lake bed in a motorized vehicle but I don't have the time or inclination to pursue it. Like I said earlier if it was every year that would be different.
