Hello,

I am considering moving to the Augusta area from Philadelphia (Filth-a-delphia). As far as I am concerned this is a no brainer hopefully I will get the job (I am praying). I would have to go up there and find a room to rent, sell my house here then move my wife and two boys (steve 5 and ben 3). I just want a better life for my family.

1. Can anyone direct me to find some type of room/apt. to rent temporarily other than craigslist and local news papers?
2. What are some decent areas in and out of the Augusta area?
3. Locals how would rate this area?

Thanks,
Steve
Philly, PA

I grew up in Augusta and moved away for college some 15 years ago. However, I go back to visit my family often, all of whom live in the area. Augusta is a great place to raise a family! It's fairly quiet but has shopping and friendly people. I agree with Mainebrokerman as far as nice towns being Hallowell, Manchester and Vassalboro. I might even say they are nicer than Augusta and probably have lower taxes. Hallowell also has a new school building. Other places you might want to consider are Belgrade Lakes, which is right between Augusta and Waterville, and Waterville. Both of which are very nice. Belgrade is great for outdoor summer activities on the lakes and Waterville, being a college town, is a little more hip. Most importantly have fun during your stay and take a drive around some of these communities.
