Looking at a house in Milo. Was wondering about the state of the town? Saw a post from Msina about moving from Milo in January. Did it never recover from the fire? Also, is it within commuting distance to Bangor? If I transfer in my current employment, that would be the nearest store to Milo. Any info would greatly be appreciated. I want out of the city, with all the crime, etc. Have lived in rural areas before, so that is not an issue. Used to stores closing early, and shopping in the city before going home. Have to say that CD is becoming one of my favorite sites. Much useful information. Thanks, Mike

The fire site was cleaned up, but nothing has been rebuilt. I went through Milo last Thursday. If you want to live in Milo you should bring your job with you.

I'll try to help. I live in Dover about 10 miles away. You could get to Bangor in under 30 minutes. It is a small town life though. That small town life, no one can help you with. Either you'll love it, or you'll spend every waking hour scheming how to get out of there. The only crime you may encounter is bad service at a store or a driver going under speed limit. If you need something at a store and it's real late, like 8pm, you might have to weigh those needs with your general welfare and outlook on life.

If you have a positive attitude and are receptive to change, plus are an adventurous spirit, then you can live anywhere. Milo or Reno, doesn't matter. Good luck with your transitional coordination.

Thanks for the info. I just saw an old post from Msina, as I mentioned earlier, and was just wondering. There are some reasonable houses in Milo, and if I can transfer with my company, I could work in Bangor. I used to do about the same commute in Virginia. From a small town of 1200, to Lynchburg.

Milo is "off the beaten path" there is no easy access to the highway. The fires we encountered were arson. There are some good people there though the lack of employment is an issue, and in the neighborhood we lived in, repeat drug offenders. In the time we were there, on the street where we lived, there was an arson, three drug busts (one for meth), domestic abuse, and an ongoing issue with a registered sex offender. For such a small neighborhood, a lot of police activity. NOW, that doesn't mean the whole town is bad, to the contrary, there are some wonderful folks there but, we were glad to leave the neighborhood. I still have a couple of good friends there that I go out of my way to visit. I don't see much of a future for the town because it's not a convenient location to commute and it doesn't have a population to support business. It would be fine if your employment is home based or if you're retired.
My 2 cents? check out the Lincoln area. Easier access to the highway, more businesses, affordable housing and some great people. I also know a great realtor in the area if you're looking to buy. Best of luck to you.
