We have 3 tobacco plants growing in our window sill. A good friend of ours has grown his own tobacco for many years here in Maine.
Tobacco does not have to be expensive.

I think the reformed smokers are bad because how acutely they now notice other peoples cigarette smoke now they aren't smoking anymore.
If they recently have quit, then other peoples smoke makes them want their own cigarette and makes them cranky they can't have them.
If its been awhile since they quit, I think all of their fresh, new, pink lung tissue is super-sensitive to the smoke and it now seems especially noxious to them.
At least this is my experience with watching my parents who have quit (Mom quit almost a year ago, and Dad quit a couple of months ago). I'm happy for both of them, but its interesting to see how they react differently to it now.
