Hi my name is msina and I'm a smoker. As a long time addict I'm trying (again) to wean myself of the habit. Most smokers that I know don't smoke in their houses or anywhere near a public area. Cigarettes are awfully expensive, $7.00 and up before tax for name brands. It would probably cost less to buy weed, (if I knew where to get some locally). I don't think a considerate smoker would have problems here.

Here's a story from when I lived on the West coast, and why I ask in the first place.

A guy and his two little kids are outside this gas station with a map spread out on the hood. They ask me for directions and I help them out as best I can and we small talk for a while, yada, yada , yada.
I go into the gas station to get cigs, the guy and his kids are behind me in line. I make my purchase, turn to go and I see him and wish him " good luck " .
The guy says, " Are you really buying cigarettes? Wow, I never would have figured you for a Smoker." The look on his face was sort of a mix of shock and disgust, like he couldn't believe he just had a pleasant conversation with a Smoker.

This was in Bellingham , WA. , by the way, not Cali, as you would expect this type of reaction.
Anyway, that's why I ask. Seems some people DO have time to judge others based on their vices and habits. Make no mistake, if Mainers are as accepting as I keep hearing about, you are an exceptional breed.
no prob you didnt offend.im unoffendable.
im not a smoker but i play one on tv.
you say the look on his face was a mix of shock and disgust.
do you care?dont be so sensitive.
are you happy with your self if so who cares what people think of you.
as long as you love your self and your fam and friends then no one else matters.
i know many smokers and i know many who dont its just the way it is.

Good point, about not caring what others think.
I have relocated a few times, and sometimes it's easy to be overly sensitive in an effort to fit in and assimilate.
You know what, SCREW 'EM!!

I like smokers. I'm kind of fond of those electric smokers that use the little wood pucks for smoke generation. They hold the heat well and you can do a whole ham in them. Nothing like smoked clams or trout too. I have a friend who smokes smelts. He claims they're great. I'll have to try that sometime.

Like that makes you a bad person!!! I used to smoke 2 packs aday for 30 years and have been off for 2.5 years now. I wouldn't worry too much about what people think.
I had a women one time made a comment when I bought smokes, I just turned and said "and you could stand to lose at least a hundred pounds but I wasen't going to offer my advice until you offered me yours".

I'm glad I'm a GOOD person now

I believe he "rolls them" in corn meal. No pipe involved.

Good for you. I smoke and catch h*** from time to time. I have thought the same as you but never had the guts to say anything. Closest I've come is mentioning "glass houses". Goes over their headss mostly.
