You have curbside trash pickup?? Wow you must live in a city!!!??? We pay for private hauling. We used to recycle until we found out there were no buyers for the sorted materials so they recombine it and burn it in the MERC plant. Not a lot of sense in sorting it only to burn it later!

We have heard stories of that kind of 'recombining' going on in previous areas where we have lived.

Like at the Post Office when they have a slot for 'local' and a slot of 'out of town' and both slots empty into the same basket.

Of course we sort our stuff ourselves.

Burnable stuff does not usually leave the property except via our woodstove.

Last night it began to get a bit chilly, but after a couple cardboard boxes our house was warm once again. A simple fix.

We try to reduce how much plastics we go through, but it is difficult, as so many things are wrapped in plastic.

We have what they call "bulky trash" pickup 2 times during the summer months. It's great fun because it's a little like a town yard sale, except everything is free for the taking. Most of the items put out never even make it to the garbage truck pickup!
