I'm new here, as I just found this site a few minutes ago. My husband, son and I for the most part live at our camp in the woods. We absolutely LOVE it and couldn't think of a better way of life. It is more difficult in the winter months, but ahhhh, Spring has sprung!
We all love it. We'll be at camp this weekend. Grandson is coming and the chocolate chip cookies are in the oven.
The reason the environmental industry likes Maine so much is that we private landowners have taken such good care of it for the last 380 years or so. I'm a keeper of the woods too. I live on 107 acres of woods and my camp is on a lake in 25 acres of old growth forest that has not been cut in well over 100 years.
I'm shocked I got replies to my post already! Northern Maine....ahhhh, there is NOTHING like it in the world! I grew up camping and fishing with my family, and I cherrish those memories!
We have solar and a windmill as we're on the water as well. As mentioned before, winters are challenging for us because the road into camp becomes an ITS trail the second they can groom it! Makes life a bit interesting to say the least. This is our 4th winter here and once there is a foot of snow, you may as well have 20 feet of the white stuff. LOL Lotsa people just don't quite understand that comment. I'm sure those who are here, fully understand it. :-)
Hi Maine Writer....what do you write? I enjoy writing, but just for fun and our experiences. Sad, but I write like I speak...Maine-ish, choppy, fast, and lotsa times I don't make much sense to others. LOL
