It's the oldest town in Maine, has wonderful historic homes, has lovely people. I have deer, turkey, fox, owls, ducks, fishers on my property, yet I am very close to civilization. I can walk to the Atlantic, and when I go grocery shopping, I take a designated "scenic route". And there's one traffic light between my house and the other grocery store, about 6 miles away. There are two historic forts, with acres and acres of undeveloped land and hiking trails. If I crave some culture, plays, fine dining etc, Portsmouth is 10 minutes away, close enough to hear the tugs when they go out to bring in a freighter and leave me enough time to get there and watch. In the 5 years I have been here, I have never met an unpleasant person.
But I really miss Chicago, go figure...

i can leave my keys in my car and door unlocked without having to worry

I bet you live in Kittery, my hometown! I had a great time exploring Fort McClary when I was a kid, and also the WWII bunkers at Fort Foster. I can't wait to move back to the area. I am truly jealous...

I'm not sure but I think that house sold, sorchamac. But there are LOTS more houses from the Victorian era and earlier. As for hunting, living in an area where hunting is the norm puts me more at ease. It means that most people who hunt have grown up with it and have learned how to be safe. Does Maine require a safety course to get a hunting license?
