That's one advantage of being along the coast. The breeze keeps a lot of flying bugs at bay. Don't get me wrong, we get our fair share, but if there's a sea breeze, the bugs are swept up and away.

Also, all mosquitos are not created equal.... you may find that he doesn't have a problem here with these ones. And if you're in Eastport, no black flies. I'm not a fan of bugs, but I spend enough time outside that they don't bother me. I don't let them interfere with what I want to do.

I ignore most bugs too and go on about my business, except that I have been bitten by spiders twice... not sure if they were brown recluse or not, but boy, did I have problems with rotting flesh, fever, and infection from them. So, I am not nuts about spiders and even more I dislike any kind of wasp, hornet, woodbee, etc... I don't feel that way about honey or bumble bees though... they don't seem interested in me, so we get along fine.

We do have to be careful about equine encephalitis down here on the Cape from mosquitoes. Do you have an issue with it up there as well from the mosquito population?

My mistake. The mosquito is the state bird.

One time at Bangor International Airport, they pumped 500 gallons of jet fuel into what they thought was a DC10. Ended up being a mosquito.

We had a blackfly hatch last week when it was in the 60's. I just whacked a mosquito in the kitchen 10 minutes ago. When it gets colder (next week ??) they'll be gone again.

Sorry to say, that is why I had to leave Maine after 5 years.

I could only enjoy being outside for two months of the year! One reason is because of the black flies (allergic), the second the mosquito population & third the c-o-l-d.

I found my heaven in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. I can enjoy being outside for 12 months of the year (no black flies, no mosquitos & very little really cold weather!

P.S. I do miss the lobsters though!!

Default thanks!

Well thanks everyone for your replies! I am a busy mama and wife and don't get to check on here that often, so I'm sorry I'm kinda late. But I just wanted to say I appreciate all of you taking the time to answer my questions! Love to read what you're up to when I get a chance, too.

Virginia girl,
I had a feeling that was the case. That is exactly what I said to my husband a few months ago. I'm glad you found such a wonderful place to cal home.
