Suddenly several posters want to be my friends. What are the implications of this? I don't want my mailbox to be loaded with chatty E-mails. I work full time and don't have time to chat. The forum is enjoyable and I check in often, primarily to advocate for Maine and as a resource person. I go back a long way; a really long way.

You're a treasure NMLM. I have a few friends on my list, I rarely use the feature but it's a nice way to remember a few people from other forums I enjoy bumping into.

Deep down, we're all friends. Whether it says it on our profile page or not.

There really shouldn't be any implications with respect to the Direct Message system.

By default, your DM settings allow all members to contact you. Each member does have the option (through Quicklinks and then Edit Options) of restricting DMs to just those on his/her contact list.
