Does anyone know if there is ferry service from the
Maine mainland to Deer Isle, and, if there is, does
it operate in October and out of what mainland town does it
go to and from Deer Isle? I plan on visiting there during
the foliage season and I enjoy taking ferries when
possible.
However... you CAN take a ferry out of Stonington, located at the southern tip of Deer Isle, and go out to the island of Isle au Haut, 6 miles to the south through Penobscot Bay, if you want to go on a ferry anyway.
(And for anyone travelling down here, they have started the 20-minute delay on the bridge, so plan to wait in line for a bit once you get here..or when you're leaving..)
