Love this discussion. Seems like Maine is the only place where time has stood still in a sense. Good stuff and good people. NMLM you need to write a book. 1944? Wow. Keep up the good work

I could picture that, or maybe even an article in Downeast Magazine - they are always working to bring people the flavah of Maine...
Plymouth Village Store in Plymouth. I stop there nearly every day on my way home from work, to sit on the porch and drink a cup of coffee after 10-14 hours of work (and occasionally a little nip of bourbon on the *really* tough days). Inside, there is an old B&W photo of the store taken in 1920-something (I think) when the roads were all dirt and the area looked a bit different. I have no idea how long it existed *before* that photo was taken, but judging by the posts and beams and wooden floor it could have been a while.
On several occasions tourists have asked if they can take a photo of me sitting there on the porch, the last time was just a couple of weeks ago.
I agree with you on the East Boothbay General Store. I always seem to find a reason to stop.
Another favorite of mine is the Town Hill General Store and Gott's, both on MDI.
