I posted info a while back for several job possibilities for diesel mechanics on a different thread. Right now the ones that come to mind are -- Hinckley's (Yachts) in Trenton, Maine. Www.hinckleyyachts.com Dysarts Truck Stop in Bangor (Hermon) sometimes has openings. Check out the website. Www.dysarts.com

Some recommended General Dynamics Bath Iron Works. Most of the jobs i saw advertised paid less than $20 per hour. Feel free to check them out.

I would contact Hinckleys and Dysarts first. Over time, maybe a higher paying position will become available at Bath Iron Works. Google diesel mechanic jobs Maine. See what you get for search results. Check out indeed.com (I know nothing about the reliability of that website) check out school systems. This website has school system job listings. There are mechanic positions listed. At least one is for a diesel mechanic instructor. Www.servingschools.com

Expenses are much cheaper in Maine, though. (For example, you can buy a decent, older house in rural towns in Maine for $50-60 k).

Thank you! We will definitely do more research to get a better understanding of how much we would be making (I am a high school teacher) and what our life expenses would be (2 kids).

My husband, being from the Alaskan bush, dreams of living a bit "away from people" and having enough space on the property for our boat, ATVs etc. I like being around people and enjoy a little more culture (bookstores, movie theater, playgrounds, playgroups). Bangor sounds like a great place in that regard as it looks like you could live just outside of Bangor and work in Bangor without an extensive drive and still have nature behind your backyard. Is that right?

We live about 20-miles North of Bangor. That is a good description of this area.

I can hunt, fish and forage on my land. Yet a short drive puts us in the city with its culture.

Yes.

The next time that you visit the area, contact me and we will have you over for supper. To discuss what it is like in this area.
