I looked at a piece of land a couple months ago. 20+ acres. Pembroke is out there. Near Moosehead Wildlife Refuge I believe. In all a great place to be. Remote.

I lived n Pembroke for 25 years and enjoyed living on Hersey Cove. Bald eagles flew over the house every day. Lots of other wildlife.

Rural and not many stores locally.

Maine cost of living is high.

Older now and retired. Tired of the long winters, stacking wood, shoveling snow.

Moved to South Carolina and love it here. Our property taxes are one third of what they were on Pembroke waterfront and we have a nicer house.

Weather is great, lots of good food available and our dollar goes further. Good medical care within a short drive. No regrets.

But I did love Maine while I was young and could enjoy winter sports. We all get old if we live long enough and our needs change.

I do know SC and NC have low taxes. It's funny though, our NJ property taxes are 4 times what they are on the houses in Pembroke we're looking at!

Getting ready to list our house so hopefully i'll know more soon. Thanks for your perspective.
