Yes, and apropos, George did give us some 'Deep Thoughts,' albeit in a very funny way. He certainly made me think seriously about a few of the issues he raised.

Only go as fast as you can. Never go faster than that!

A good friend will bail you out of jail. A best friend is sitting next to you saying "Damn, that was fun!!"

Me too...

Look here at this link to the NPR program Fresh Air from WHYY : NPR which replayed clips from several programs with George Carlin today. Click on the link "Listen to Monday's show - June 23, 2008" I am sorry that he is always remembered by the "Seven Dirty Words" bit that was so long ago. He is so much more. I think if you listen to his interviews on the NPR piece you will see where his fun (and genius) with language comes from (his Mom), and why it formed so much of his hilarious humor and observation of us.

A woman who was catholic had saved her money for a pilgrimage to the holy land. In her 70's she finally had enough money to make the trip. On boarding the airplane she saw that 4 bishops were also on the plane. About halfway across the ocean, one of the engines shot black smoke from it. The pilot came on the intercom and announced, "we have lost and engine, but are perfectly capable of making the rest of the trip on three engines." The old woman started to weep and wail and saying, "Oh God we won't make it, Oh God, we won't make it." The stewardess came back to her to calm her down. The stewardess told her, we would be fine with 3 engines, and of course we have 4 bishops. The woman cried, "Well I would rather have 4 engines and 3 bishops."

The seven words won't go over the net either......Don't cha know! I thought Carlin had become a little mean spirited in the last few years. Rest his soul.
