Have you tried the Jobs in Maine site? You will likely have more luck there than you would on the "big sites." My brother is a CPA in Portland and does very well and I know there are a number of great CPA firms in the area. If you are more interested in being a staff accountant/financial analyst/corporate controller/etc, things may be tougher since there aren't a lot of large corporations here. There are positions available right now, however. I see the following openings posted today in Portland:

Financial Analyst (BS in Accounting or Finance, CPA or MBA)
CFO (BA/BS required, MBA highly desirable)

You are being offered a lot of wise counsel from folks who know, nep321. Maine can be a wonderful place; you just need to count the costs, and then make your decision.

I am not a CPA nor do I want to take the CPA track. And I am only at staff level in my career -- far from being qualified to be a controller! I guess working for a CPA firm would be a last resort, but most of them want to hire CPA's only, and they require a LOT of work hours, which stresses me out. If I move to Maine, I want to live a low stress lifestyle, you know? That's the whole theme of Maine. But I will definitely look at the Jobs in Maine site that you suggested....when I leave work today lol.

Perhaps you should not limit yourself to looking only "online" for job opportunities. Or you could stay with the great job you already have and visit Maine on long weekends.

Well what if I walk away from my career and just settle for a low paying job in Maine? You know....like in retail or something? Hopefully Obama passes that minimum wage proposal that he wants to raise to $9.00 per hour or more. That way, I could live off the minimum wage in Maine, working at Best Buy or something. Thoughts?

Nep, you can probably buy a house outright in Maine with your savings.

You're welcome for saving you a mortgage payment on your budget.

For real? I highly doubt that. That would be awesome though. Then, I wouldn't need a high paying job.

Do you think Maine would be a culture shock coming from CT?

Now you have just greatly expanded the discussion, beyond your original questions.

Would it be a shock?? That depends on you.

I guess it would be wise to visit more. I only spent one night there and that's it. And I didn't do much while I was there. All I did was stay in a hotel at Freeport and go to Shaws to buy some dinner, then I drove around the coastline. It was early June of 2012 and it was cold, like 60 degrees at best. Hopefully that's not typical for June.

That savings account is my "save for a house down payment" fund and I'd hate to see it depleted.
$51,000 yea you would only make it about 2 or 3 years before that dryed up
