Hi,

I go to Maine every year. I usually start at Kennebunk and end in Bar Harbor in the summer time. I never been to Maine in the winter. I plan on going on vacation in January to experience the winter (NY-Long Island here, so use to the cold)

Any suggestions on what to do? I plan on staying/traveling somewhere between Kennebunk to Portland.

Thanks!

The Bangor Daily News published a photo a few years ago showing a cross country skier and a surfer in the same photo. There is a new trail that goes from Portland to Kennebunk. Depending on the weather, you can bicycle, hike, cross country ski or snowshoe that trail. Crowds will not be a problem. Some B&Bs close for the winter, but Maine B&Bs are the best places to stay. They serve awesome breakfasts.

Bethel may be a little out of the way but worth the trip. We stayed at the Bethel Inn and had a swim in their out door heated pool. The stars were out and it was an amazing experience. It's a beautiful town, especially covered in snow. Spend some time on Main St. in Brunswick on the way up. I'm still thinking about that gelato and Indian food.

If you are starting in kennebunk, then something I use to like doing, was walking out on the breakwaters at the mouth of the kennebunk river in kennebunkport, you can walk right to one,(breakwater) right off ocean ave. across from the colony in kennebunkport
The ocean and views are still awesome , even in winter, just be careful, not to slip
