Hi! I am looking at a property with no septic and no well and need to know how to find out what is allowed in Washington County for these projects before I buy a property! I don't know where to turn and just need to be pointed in the right direction.

You will need to speak with the town's code enforcement officer, and you should speak with a land surveyor who can design septic systems. You will have to have a properly designed septic system in order to get a building permit in any town in the state. If you cannot find the name of a soils engineer or surveyor who can provide you with information, for sure the town office will be able to give you some names. You can also contact the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and they can help you.
