I hope this doesn't sound too dumb, but is that the first time the boys had seen apples on the tree? I know they don't grow in Texas and they look so enthralled that I thought it might have been.

Ok, all together now....

Awwwwwwwwwwww! A friend's chicken hatched a half dozen duck eggs. They made their debut just in time for Mother's Day. She doesn't know they're not chicks. She'll raise them until she starts laying again.

Well, we had a lonely little crabapple tree in our back yard in Texas, but they had definitely never seen a MacIntosh apple tree, or any of the other wonderful varieties grown here in Maine. Treworgy was like an apple paradise! We all loved it.

I think they do grow some apple varieties in the Texas Hill country, but mostly peaches, plums, etc. They also have a lot of vineyards.

Cute ducklings, Maine Writer! I, for one, can vouch for the fact that you can be Mom even if your children look nothing like you!

txmom, some of my fondest memories as a child were the visits to the orchards in the fall, picking sweet, juicy apples and eating just as many. Of course with six kids, my parents were assured of having lots of bushels.
Ahh... the memories....thanks.

Ok, I guess I have to ask the stupid question that has been plaguing me! Are those wild birds or caged? I really can't tell from your shots. They're beautiful! I've never seen such variety in the wild here.

Wild, looks like Goldfinches and the one on the orange looks to be an Oriole. Looks like a Downy Woodpecker as well. Some of the other pictures have Bluejays, Grackles, Purple Finches, A Grosbeak or two, and a few I can't remember the names of right now.
