I've spent the last hour on the website for the wildlife department. I've been looking on line and I found the law pertaining to it, and it looks like it's no problem for us to bring them along if we can get a house and set it up to accomodate their special needs. At this point it looks like setting it up for their health is the bigger problem, not the legality of it, which is good. But I can't find an on line application to fill out. Does anyone know where we can find it? Or do we need to call them and have it sent out. I know it's a bit in advance of our estimated move time, but I keep hoping something will come along and we can be there before 2011 ends. Fingers crossed. Trying to be positive and maybe that'll help us get up there sooner!

Are you sure that you will need a permit to have a tortoise?

You need a permit to keep any non native wild animal unless they have become domesticated. Llamas are an example.

Pretty sure. Based on what I read on the website it looks like we need to file the permit and pay a $25 fee per tortoise every two years. I'll call and make sure though. Once things warm up a bit and we have our date set to head up to look at houses I'll give them a call. Really hoping I can have the house in TN sold this summer and move. fingers crossed........

Well, they are domesticated. At least the female is. She thinks she's a dog. LOL The two boys......... well, they're kinda cranky still. The biggest one more than the baby. Honestly, he's just a grumpy old tortoise!

I can see it now. Eastport would be overrun with tortoise like Australia with the rabbits.
