I spent a couple of summers in Maine with family about 20 yrs ago or so. They lived in a place called East Holden, which from what I remember wasn't really a town, more of a road in the woods.
They owned a..I'm not sure what you'd call it, half cafe/half lil grocery store directly across from Jenkins beach. From what i understand it was torn down and turned into a parking lot awhile back.
I've been trying to find real estate prices in that area but haven't had much luck. Does anyone have an idea if that's a high priced area? Is it a popular area? Do houses come on the market often?
Upon further review, their store might have been across from a place called Violettes beach, not Jenkins. Both sound familiar. I remember the owners name was Joe and he would let us in for free.
I have seen houses for sale over there but waterfront does not come on the market often... worth keeping an eye out. There are quite a few lakes in the area if you just want to be in the area.
The store was across from Jenkins Beach which is the first beach you come to on the road that runs along Green Lake. Violettes Landing is further down. Like mentioned it is a real nice area with lots of lakes around.

Thanks!!
There was a subdivision put up not far from there called Jellison Heights (I believe). There are homes for sale there. Some are higher-end.
Here's a link to ERA. Warning: they start out highest first.

I grew up near there and remember that store and the last family that owned it....the lake is wonderful but if I was looking now I would look on Phillips Lake and they also have seasonal rentals available so you could try the area for the summer and if you like it then buy the following year.

I don't know if my Aunt and Uncle (Julie and John)were the last to own it but they had 5 kids that you might remember, depending on how old you were at the time. The oldest 3 were high school age when they owned it in the late 80's early 90's. Andrea, Derek and Brian were their names.
I know that the above post is older, but I grew up on Green Lake and was looking for other information and stumbled upon the question. The store was owned by the Yula's. They sold to another family, maybe the above mentioned with all the kids. The area has slowly been developing. half the lake is in Dedham and the other (opposite the Jenkins end) is Ellsworth, so you have to browse both towns. The area is lovely and it is where I plan to retire. If you are not from the area, you do need to experience the winter season prior to purchasing. The Quinn realty company is who to call, they know the area, better than anyone else.
The grocery store was bills market.... Bill and lida Yula were my grandparents. The original store was up the street farther then they relocated by the lake. They sold the place to a family who drove it into the ground. It was sad to watch. My grandparents poured their heart and soul into that place. The bldg was condemned and torn down. My grandparents built a lovely home right across the street and now some new owners are there and have fixed it up beautifully. Green lake was a busy hopping place in the 70s 80s - it's a beautiful lake.

Reason: Correction in name
Joe Jenkins is the owner of the beach. He also has camp rentals. Violettes boat landing is a couple miles farther down the road. Do not know the owner. My mom grew up on green lake. I know every inch of it. Nothing like the mud ponds down here in ct. My brother and I are taking a road trip up there this weekend...first time in yrs.
