Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations on where to go in Maine for vacation this coming winter. My girlfriend and I are looking to rent a small and cozy house somewhere on the coast in February of 2011 (I know it's way ahead of time, but I want to have an idea since I'm going to propose to her then).

I've been to Maine many, many times and love the mid-coast/Downeast regions, but I've never been in the winter. Eating lobster and relaxing next to the fireplace in the dead of winter sounds nice to me. Also, we like to be relatively secluded.

Any recommendations on towns where we should stay?

You do realise that a large number of motels, seasonal restaurants, shops, and seafood dealers are closed in the winter right? Many houses and cottages that are available to rent in the summer are closed up and winterized and not rented at all in winter. If they are insulated well and have central heating they are often rented for the whole winter. You may have a hard time finding a place to rent for a short vacation in the winter. Assuming you can find a place to rent somewhere you'll be secluded enough in February in Maine that's for sure.

Yes, I do realize that, but that doesn't mean everywhere is closed. Guess I'll have to investigate what seafood dealers are still open that time of year.

There are properties that rent in the winter; they are not shut down for the winter, and they are not rented out for the entire winter season. If you see something you're interested in, inquire of off-season rates.

I'm not 100% on CD's rules regarding posting hot links to businesses, so I'll DM you a link to a reputable rental property management business in the mid-coast area...if this is the area you're interested in...not sure it is.

Seafood - lobster, etc. - is readily available all winter.

Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast is open year round except for Christmas day. There may possibley be something in Belfast area to rent - if not it's not that far from Camden.
