I'm a resident of Santa Monica and I absolutely love my neighborhood. Its classy with plenty of parking and wide roads (not to mention clean air, cooler temperatures and 1.5 miles biking distance from the Pier).

I commute to Malibu everyday for work, and the drive ends up being 15-20 minutes tops one way (16 mile drive). I am switching jobs in a few weeks and my new employer is located in Burbank, which means my commute changes quite a bit (21-22 miles on way trip).

Now do you think the daily commute to Burbank is something that will drive me nuts? I am considering re-locating but want to hear stories from people in similar situations and determine what might be the best routine over the long run. Thanks for reading,

A

i interviewed for a job in burbank while living in burbank and had to make the drive in morning rush hour. even for me on a motor scooter, it was a pretty long drive (almost an hour) and i can lane split to save time. in a car, im guessing you'd be looking at over an hour each way everyday. driving through the city would take way too long by car and the 101 is really slow heading east from the 405 if you go that route. if you move, you'll lose the easy beach access, but there are plenty of nice neighborhoods not far from burbank. if got the job i had interviewed for, i was going to probably move to los feliz with its easy access to griffith park.

LA traffic is something you just have to get used to. I live on the Westside and know plenty of neighbors who work for the entertainment companies in Burbank and make the commute every single day. Generally it's 45min to an hour & 15min each direction, but the quality of life here far makes up for the long drive, especially if you've got kids. If you do want to live closer you can look into the Hollywood/Los Feliz area, but it depends on where the majority of your friends live too.
