I will be visiting La in the Spring/Summer and will be going out a lot and WILL NOT DRINK and DRIVE...

What are my options and price tariff with taxis and prive car service? Please don't recommend to me public transportation that is not a option.

Most of my evening social activities will be in the West Hollywood, Melrose areas.............thanks

Cabs are your best choice probably, but they are expensive. I remember I took a cab from La Cienega/Fairfax to Hollywood/Highland cost about 20 w/tip...

Got these numbers from taxicabsla.org

$2.85 flag drop (first 1/9th mile).
$0.30 for each additional 1/9th mile ($2.70 per mile).
$0.30 for each 37 seconds waiting/delay ($29.19 per hour)

Just beware, lots of waiting in the Hollywood area.

it really depends on how far you will need to go, but taxis are expensive in LA. I would say that generally speaking, it costs about $10 for every five minutes you are in the cab. the rates that knoxtown posted are the rates set by the city, but they are misleading due to how spread out LA is and how bad traffic can be at any hour of the day.

How about private car service any info on this..like flat rates. Most of my travels we be from Santa monica to West Hollywood were most of the social scene is...I rather pay the money for a driver/taxi then drink and drive...

i think that's a smart move on your part. taxis will be the cheapest option, private cars are even more expensive. i would say a cab from santa monica to west hollywood will run you $30-50, depending on a number of different factors. maybe you can make some friends at your hotel and split a cab to keep the costs down.

interesting idea, never heard of it. it would be hilarious though to have a guy drop you off with your car and zip away on some sort of foldable scooter, especially after drinking all night.

Only thing about ydriveLA that is that it requires you to have a car ... I'm not so sure how that'd work with a rental. Might want to inquire about that part ...

Maybe that's because this isn't a relevant option in your case, assuming you'll be renting a car during your trip.

I agree with Narfcake; I doubt it will work with a rental car. And you presumably still have to deal with paying for parking. It's a great idea, and it's an excellent option for those who are have their own car in town.
