The further you go West/Southwest is better. Stay w of Crenshaw except the area between Old Torrance and Crenshaw around Torrance Blvd is really nice. The commute is a crawl during rush hour and yes, 45 min is about right but it can sometimes be more.

Default moving to torrance

Thank you everyone again for your numerous posts and good comments. I am now more confused than ever and sadly getting to the conclusion that to get good schools one needs to have hell commute. Of course that would be different if we had a couple of extra kkkk in our bank acct.
Again it seems that Torrance is the place, however my husband was there a couple of wks ago and found Torrance bland and very spread out. He hated the beach and the power lines going through the city. He did not see any culture or night life. Enfin he gave me thumbs down.
And the more I read abt SM the more I hate the idea of being around plastic people. I know it is LA but c'mom don't you have a green community hiding in every town there? I am not a 100% tree huger but getting closer by the yr.
So, I am now starting to fear that our kid's academic life will suffer if we make this move.

Torrance has great schools. You might want to consider Palos Verdes as well, the school are even better.
