Torrance is the best suburb of LA in my opinion (Im biased as I grew up there). Its diverse, safe, has its own activities, close to the beach, and at the base of the PV mountains.

If you have a son I recomend living in South Torrance. Calle Major Elementary has a really good thing going and is probably the best school down there. It feeds into South High School which is the best High School in Torrace. There are several neighborhoods that are really nice to check out. Anything North of PCH and West of Hawthorne would be ideal if you can. Also there are some really nice places just surrounding Del Amo mall. Going west on Carson St. there are some really nice homes.

The only thing that is tough is if you have to get into LA from South Torrance, budget about one hour because of its locale (kind of caddy corner to the 110 and 405). The best way into downtown from Del Amo on south is 190th to the 110, but it still takes lots of time. Getting to West LA is a direct shot on the 405, but traffic on that road is bad.
