LOL. This is the first time, in well ever, that this has happened at this type of scale. It happened a bit after the Gray Davis/Schwarzenegger debacle, but only a bit. A majority of teachers and staff who were let go this time around were first year teachers, first year staff, and "fat" at the district. At least where I work.

In a way, it was good. Of course people losing their jobs is never good, but in terms of "streamlining" it is, I dunno.

The point is, working at a school district normally has the most security one can ever get at a job. By the time the OP finishes her credential and all that jazz, I'm sure things will be fine. If not, then we'll have way bigger problems than balancing the budget.
