If you're looking at the South Bay, you should include El Segundo. Small, tight knit community with good schools. Some good restaurants but right next to Manhattan Beach for others. Easy freeway access. Housing costs more than Redondo, but less than MB.

There’s a pre mls (pocket listings) but now I believe all listings need to be put out for the public to see as it was considered unfair business practice....

Finding a good realtor will be tough, are you getting a loan I assume? You will be competing with all cash buyers specially in your price range so be ready. Research as much as you can.

Baldwin hills, in the hills is nice, great views up in the hills either side of La Cienega . Middle class and up. Schools aren't great in general esp towards Crenshaw.

Silver Lake and Los Feliz are neighborhoods in the city of LA. Although metro LA is relatively liberal and progressive, in my opinion, Silver Lake and Los Feliz are the most liberal, with the exception of West Hollywood. With your budget you can buy or rent just about anywhere in LA County. I commuted from Silver Lake to Century City for two years using surface streets and not freeways. The weekday commute was about 45 minutes each way. Immaculate Heart Catholic High School for girls is in Los Feliz. Meghan Markle, Dutches of Sussex, is their most famous alumni.

Well, West Hollywood is not in the city of Los Angeles (as is Silverlake and Los Feliz), it is an independent municipality. Just a semantics matter.

If the OP has to go on business trips often, living near LAX becomes an amenity. A cousin of mine racks up frequent flyer miles thanks to his job.

Just don't live below the landing or take-off flight paths!

Culver City is a nice place and actually close to Century City. Any idea of northern part of Inglewood where many new houses have been built in the past 3 or 4 years. Check this:
