Can someone who has lived in both areas give me some insight? I'm looking to move to Mission Beach (SD) or other close beach areas like Pacific Beach. I'm wanting to compare it to Manhattan Beach (LA) or other similar areas like Hermosa and Santa Monica. I think I would personally prefer San Diego over LA just because its a much smaller city. However everyone keeps telling me the job marketplace is terrible in SD. And from what I've researched there may be some truth to it. This has caused me to look for a similar area in LA. I'm just looking for someone to compare the two areas and what area in LA would most be like SD.

First off, Mission/Pacific Beach compared with Manhattan Beach are apples and peanuts. If you're to compare Manhattan with the closest beach city near SD, that would be La Jolla.

With that said, let us know WHY you're looking to move to one of those places and realize that they're both, real estate cost-wise, out of the grasp of 99% of the US population.

It's very difficult to compare LA with San Diego. They're very different but, yes, there are more jobs in the LA area.

I cant compare with Manhattan beach, but i will say Pacific Beach is way better than Mission Beach in San Diego.

I can't really think of anything being in Mission.

Pacific Beach has tons of bars, restaurants, and shops on Garnet. Lots of people go their to party.

Mission Beach is pretty much just the beach. And the roller coaster.......

The only thing about PB, is the parking situation. Your apartment will most likely not have assigned parking, so you might find yourself circling the block for 20 minutes during the warm season.

Manhattan Beach is not tourist friendly which is what the locals want. It's an exclusive bedroom community of LA more like La Jolla. Mission Beach is a corporate run tourist trap so there are more places to spend your time and money near the water than anything in LA. Most housing is high turnover rentals and even weekly arrangements for the many visitors.
