L.A. is notorious among ride share drivers for having low fares. I've gotten rides halfway across Hollywood for $4, SaMo to Sherman Oaks for $13. The only scenario I can even fathom where OP would need ride share is if some unplanned time crunch comes up or if they need to get from the west side into the Valley.

So $7 a day for full access metro (cheaper than Chicago, Bay Area, and NYC for a newer, cleaner system btw), with maybe an odd 5-15$ ride share every once in a while. Sounds cheaper and more efficient than a rental car to me.

For that brief a visit, rent a car.

A trip to a tourist place in Santa Monica in a car:
Hollywood Blvd -> 101 -> 110 -> 10 -> PCH -> parking
What can be more stressful than this trip, especially at 8am or 6pm?

A trip for $1.75 on an auto-driving vehicle:
Hollywood/Highland -> 7th/Metro -> Santa Monica

OP I did the same thing 10 years ago with a few friends when we stayed in LA a week, and it was super easy. This was pre rideshares and before the improvement in LA's transit. Hollywood is where we stayed too and we were able to get everywhere via transit. Even Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita (just 3 transfers). We went to Downtown, Venice, Santa Monica, WeHo, and Beverly Hills all via transit. We used a cab only once. If I were you, I'd take the trains and maybe the shortest bus rides possible, but you can substitute those with rideshares now. Pricing for it in LA is actually better than most cities because there are so many people out here doing it.

Do 6 people fit in a rideshare car?

Unless parking comes with the stay?

No way in the world could I tolerate this city without a vehicle. The amount of time you will waste waiting around should be enough to qualify for Deal Killer.

The Red Line runs every 10 minutes in Hollywood.
You'll waste more time trying to find parking on Hollywood Blvd at one spot, then another; especially for free.

Yes, if somebody stays in Pomona and has to travel to tourist places in Compton, she probably needs a car.

Get around LA all the time on the trains and buses. Most places of interest are easily accessible on public transit. The naysayers most likely have never tried it.
