I am visiting Estes Park on April 15 - April 20 with family. 2 kids (8 and 6)

What are some good places to go (which are hopefully not closed due to snow)

Here is my list

- Lake Estes
- Beaver Meadows Visitor Center
- Bear Lake
- Sprague Lake
- Alberta Falls

Any recommendations are appreciated?

Bear Lake and possibly on to the lakes behind it - Emerald, etc. sounds like a good idea - but could be snowy/icy.

I think snow and/or ice are almost assured. The forecast for Bear Lake calls for 4-10" of snow tomorrow into Thursday, and slight chances of snow all the way through next Monday. The highs won't be above freezing until Saturday.

Would you recommend I buy snow boots or do you think the trails will have slight snow and walkable in regular jogging shoes.

In the spring you could encounter trails in all kinds of conditions... snow, ice, mud. Honestly, I recommend just wearing any shoes you own that can be washed. Bring plastic bags to put them in when you get back to the car. Bring a change of socks and another pair of shoes to use after hiking.

Be safe.

I see you mentioned kids. Do not let them on the lake ice this time of year. I took my nephews to Bear Lake, years ago, and before I could say “boo” they were out on the lake and one of them put a foot through the ice. Scared the crap out of me.

Thanks for all the advice! I would keep an eye on my monkeys so they won't jump on top of the lake.
