I recently took a trip to LA to look at apartments. I really, really liked the Silver Lake/Los Feliz area. Can anyone give me more information on these areas? Safe? Affordable?

Safe, yes, and reasonably affordable compared to some other areas. Centrally located, so you're not TOO far from everything. Plenty of areas where you can walk to shops, restaurants, etc. Check craigslist for rentals.

Thanks. I called a few apartments with vacancy signs...quite a few in my budget, but quite a few that weren't. Just wanted to know in comparison to surrounding areas.

My main concern was safety...I'm moving with my wife and baby, so I want to make sure it's a safe area.

We know tons of family folks who live in the area. Hopefully you will get more positive responses to put your mind at ease. Be aware that there are some gritty areas of every neighborhood, but they're pretty easy to spot in the Los Feliz/Silver Lake area. Good luck.
