Would anyone have some recommendations on good Private schools in Torrance and surrounding areas ?

Any ideas on First Luthern or St.CAtherine or Hickory Tree Elementary School.

I did read up their reviews on greatschools.net. But still hunting for more information.

My son went to St Lawrence Martyr in Redondo Beach for eight years and I highly recommend it although it's hard to get into due to high demand among congregants' families. Also, it's Catholic, if that's a problem for you.

St Lawrence would be a nice choice. Unfortunately, as andyourlittledogtoo points out, most of the good parochial schools in the South Bay draw, predominantly, from parish families. Both of my children attended American Martyrs in Manhattan Beach and it requires a great deal of commitment to your children, their school and the church. Waiting for the acceptance letter is like waiting to hear from the colleges to which you applied when you were younger.

LOL Yeah, that is so true. When my son entered he was only one of two permitted to enter off a forty child waiting list at the time. That was first grade and all the other kids were there since kindergarten and there was never another opening the entire eight grades for his class. And all the kids families were active in the parish. It's just so tight with only one class per grade.

I am not sure how full the non Catholic schools are but part of the problem in Los Angeles is that LA school district is so bad that a lot of people who can do attempt to send their kids to private school. And in the areas like Manhattan and Redondo and Torrance which have their own school districts the schools are generally better but the income level is higher too and their doesn't seem to be any lack for parents who are willing and able to send their kids to parochial school. I would definitely apply now though as if you wait you'll be beyond the application period for the Catholic schools and miss out before you start.

The up side to all of this though is that Torrance schools are pretty good schools so if you are going to be in that district it's not really a problem IMO.

Well.. I live in Carson. And Work is in Torrance. So looking for any private schools in that direction. Any other way would be too much of commute.

I am not a Catholic but am Christian.

I am constantly hearing of how CAtholic schools do a good job though.
So am considering st.Catherine, which seems to have the biggest crowd in all Torrance private SChools.

As torrance Public schools are pretty good, it is becoming hard to find out which one of the Private schools are really doing well.

Well, check out the archidiocese website to find out the application periods for the various catholic schools so you don't accidentally miss any you're interested in. And good luck!!

My children attend St.Catherine and it's an amazing community of families. The elementary teachers were excellent, thus far, and the principal, albeit, young, is informed and listens. It's a nice small school and not a lot of bells and whistles. My child has really grown and learned a great deal in the last few years he's been there. I would recommend checking it out and it's completely affordable, in relation to other private schools.

However, with any Catholic school, there are other mandatory financial obligations, fundraisers, scrips, etc (but I guess, a lot schools do this regardless, these days), as well as volunteer hours.

But in general, I'm really happy with the school and impressed with the academics.

Have you considered Torrance USD schools via a work-related transfer permit?

I'm not a big fan of private school, even though I'm the product of k-12 private education. lol.
