thanks. I will check out those high dollar boutiques too. I have a lot of experience and a lot of accomplishments that my resume shows in details. I hope one of these retailers out there will give me a chance. I will spend a lot of time applying tomorrow.

my only concern is I need to make enough money to survive on my own. i'm guessing around 40-50k at least to start, do you think this will be obtainable? As I mentioned i have 10 years experience.

at my current position in small city south of detroit I take him 40k thats after taxes. In LA i'm going to need to actually need more then that so i'm going to say 50-60k. Do you think this is obtainable in the retail market? Its unfortunate I'd have to work my way up again, but I am willing to do that because I'm confident of my work ethic. My only concern is being able to make enough money to live decently in the mean time.

If you do end up focusing on Beverly Hills, I'd look in West Hollywood for an apartment. Maybe focus on west of La Brea and south of Sunset. It's close to BH, great nightlife, great cafes, very diverse population (but really, that's the same for most parts of LA), great place to be if you are young and single.

You should be able to find something for $1500 there and depending on where you are, you will be within walking distance or a short bus ride away (eg around W 3rd, Beverly Blvd, etc). Also look at the Mid-Wilshire area and around La Brea, some beautiful old apartment buildings there. These are densely populated, lively areas, which sounds like what you are looking for.

You'll also find high end retail and good living in OC and SD, but it will be quite a different type of experience.

great thanks a lot. Today i spoke with my current boss and it looks like moving to LA is becoming more of a reality. Looks like I hit my limit of opportunities at my current situation and its time for me to move on. I need to start making some connections out there for a job first.

Hello,

After 8 months of making connections and trying to find every possible way of getting a job in LA before moving out there. I have finally received a job offer. Its not the highest paying position but it is a stepping stone and it got offered to me and it lets me enter LA's massive network market. I just got back from the las vegas magic/agenda fashion convention and made a lot of connections with those in the LA area. I'm confident once I get there i'll be able to move up as I am determined and experienced.

So I have planned a trip to travel to LA first week of September and get a feel for the city and look for somewhere to live. The job is located in El Monte. Can anyone recommend a nice place to live for a 27 y/o single male. I dont mind driving a little bit to work, Max rent is probably 1,000. I appreciate your help

Congrats on landing the new job blackmamba04. I'm currently in Michigan and I'm planning a move to the LA area within a year's time.

Congrats on the new job I recommend checking out Pasadena and Highland Park for places to live. $1000 is the minimum for a "nice"place. I wouldn't rule out having a roommate, it will allow you to save money.

Although you can probably live east of El monte for cheaper, I agree with the previous poster about the Highland Park area. It is still relatively cheap, but also has train access into downtown LA. Are you familiar with the Fashion District in DTLA. I'd imagine that should be on your radar.

Driving around I found a 1 Bedroom on Benner St in Highland Park for $1400, but across the street were 2 bedrooms 2 bath condos with a pool and washer and driver for $250,000k. If I was single, I'd buy the 2bedroom and rent out a room for $1000. I've found that many apartments aren't listed on craigslist, Westside Rentals, Padmapper, or hotpads and you really need to drive around.

hello,

thanks for the response. Does anyone know of a agency that finds apartments for you? Apartment shopping for the LA area is just too much the city is to big, and i'm sure theres gotta be some kind of service for this.
