I grew up in Georgia and love almost everything about my Southern heritage and culture. I love the traditions and country music and the sense of community...I probably wouldn't leave if I didn't have to, but ah, the dream of working in TV is beckoning me to LA!

So are there any places/organizations where I could find Southern culture in LA? Of course there are Southern-style restaurants, but I'm looking for something a little different. I'm thinking about becoming a regular at a country-themed bar. But anything else?

All you Southerners out there who made the move, where do you go to keep in touch with your roots while away?

The first truck stop cafe I entered off I-20 near Birmingham featured scripture in frames hanging on the walls, on the place mats, and even on the menus.

Don't expect to see any of that out here.

I thought Atlanta was starting to steal a portion of the entertainment industry.

I grew up in Atlanta and moved here. There are quite a few southern transplants, but you will not find a southern community.

I'm from TN so I'm a southerner too. I've met a lot of folks here from the South but haven't found any real Southern culture here. Even good food is hard too find and usually way overpriced. At least McDonald's has good sweet tea.

If you want authentic Southern food. Go to any restaurant in Crenshaw/Lemeirt Park area. If you want Southern Culture, head on up to Bakersfield which is basically Oklahoma. There's still Okies in the I.E too.

Hello, GeorgiaGold....a Southern Cross for you: [><]

Regarding Southern culture, I don't think there's much of it here. There may be some country western bars in the area, but I've never been to any. It's actually odd that L.A. residents like to boast of how multicultural a city it's alleged to be, yet Southern culture seems to be completely absent.

The I.E. used to be where most of the Southern culture was contained, but nowadays all the southern and Midwestern genetations are retiring and, for the most part, the I.E. is pretty much all Mexican, with a side of suburbia in the mix.
