I've heard that Friday night is a NO NO you dont want to drive to LV during this time. Question is this...at what point is it 'safe' to go from a traffic standpoint? I need to get to Vegas to bet all my money on the 49ers this weekend (LOL) and i dont want to sit in Friday night traffic...if i go Saturday at 9pm (getting to Vegas at 1am) is that a traffic free trip or do i need to wait later, maybe Saturday at 3am getting into Vegas at 7am?

I've gone to vegas several times on a Friday without incident, but you need to leave LA in the morning, no later than noon. If you go at rush hour (i.e. after work) you're in trouble.

Since this is a 3 day weekend coming up I imagine vegas will be busier than usual, so Friday could be bad all day.

I have also left for Vegas on Saturday afternoon with minimal traffic so I think you going at 9 pm will be more than fine. Even earlier would be okay. Just be careful about traffic home on Monday.

Leaving Saturday around 3-5am is good, you'll certainly have light traffic at that time.

if you leave for vegas on saturday morning then beware the rising sun. the desert sun is incredibly bright and since you'll be headed in a general eastward direction, you'll be staring at it as it crests the horizon. needless to say, bring some good sunglasses!

I typically leave for Vegas saturday mornings at 7-8am. Definitely not worth going on a Friday night. I also try to return home by 8am on Sunday or Monday (if it's a holiday).

^^^This. Friday night driving can ruin your whole outlook for the weekend.

Unless you're specially prepared, a la Raoul Duke (Hunter S Thompson)

If the Niners lose, OP'd still be alright

I learned the hard way when I attended a family reunion there in July of 2010; my brother & his family left at 8AM & were home in La Mirada by noon.

I left at 1:00 and got home at 7:30!!!

If you're going, leave early, but no later than 10 AM; coming home, do the same thing and you'll be fine barring a huge accident.
