Does anybody know a good karaoke bar or place in the West LA/Santa Monica/Culver City area?

Preferably a place that's open on weekday nights (like Wednesday or Thursday) in addition to weekends.

The Gaslite and Boardwalk 11 are good for any-night-of-the-week karaoke. But I'm fond of Monday nights at Liquid Kitty: Strongest drinks in town, plus karaoke? Magic. Pure magic.

Backstage in Culver City and Mom's in West LA are owned by the same people, and frequently have karaoke. I believe it's Thursday through Saturday at Backstage, and Sundays and Wednesdays at Mom's. Haven't been to Backstage in ages, but Mom's has its charms... mostly in the form of cheap drinks. $4 vodka tonics FTW!

I think there is a place on the east side of Sawtelle Blvd, about a block north of Olympic.

Gaslite, as BR mentioned is good. Backstage is well known...watch for Culver City PD if you have a few drinks.

Really? The Gaslite? 'Cause I always thought it was kind of awful. Oddly smokey, crowded, bad sound system, and my bill was wrong a couple of times (overcharged) when I've gone there.

Boardwalk 11 is great. Liquid Kitty isn't bad, either.

Interesting. How does the pricing work at these places? Meaning, do you pay to sing a song? Or are you just paying for drinks/food and the karaoke system is just something that the bar offers free of charge to bring in the crowd?

I've only been to karaoke places with separate rooms, not actual bars where you sing in front of others.

You don't pay per song. The bar offers it free of charge. Some bars have a 2 drink minimum.

You can tip the "KJ" (there's usually a tip jar), and I imagine you're more likely to be called up if you do so.

I've always gone to Rogers Tattle Tale on Sepulveda. Really cool dive bar, bartender is really cool, KJ is a cool guy and the drinks are fairly cheap.
