I have lived all over the US and California is by far my favorite state. However, Los Angeles is not where I would choose to live. Try San Diego or the San Francisco Bay area.

What is the cost of living for general every cost for living in San Diego?
For your basic every day needs. What is the average cost of housing, apartments etc?

Don't even think of coming here without a written job offer or better yet a contract and a salary of at least 90k. Cost of living and unemployment are high. Best of luck in your search. I'd recommend Panama instead of much of the US right now.

Actually Panama is rated very highly for retirement. I don't know about working there. I have been to the Panama and there is absolutely no way that I would consider living there.

You have to realize that we have very high unemployment in California so jobs are not very plentiful depending on what you do.
