The Skyscraper Page now lists the final planned height figures for the so-called "Wilshire-Grand Project" (Korean Air Towers) to be built in downtown L.A. The central office building will reach 65 floors and 1250 ft. That will make it the tallest building in Los Angeles.

The project includes a separate, 45 st hotel, and a commerical center. Construction is set to begin in 2011, with completion set for 2020.

The developers are currently seeking waivers from the City Planning Dept to permit electronic signage on the towers' glass and aluminum facades, ala Tokyo (or Bladerunner!)

Too kwel...

Dunno, that's the timeline called for in the article though. Maybe it's got something to do with the size and scope of the project? They're going to build it in stages, perhaps? Seems like it shouldn't take more than two-three years at most, huh?

One thing about this structure, though- unlike many other planned LA skyscrapers that stall out for lack of financing, this one has an excellent chance to get built. The impetus is being supplied by Korean business interests. L.A. is already the US headquarters for Korean overseas interests. According to accounts I've read, this complex is intended to serve as a symbole of that relationship.

Anyone remember how long it took to construct the Marriott hotel tower at LA Live? Seems like it was maybe a few years. The Koren Air Tower will be more than twice the height but 9 years to build seems longer than normal.
