I was at Jamaica station this afternoon, waiting for the 3:03 train on platform 7 & 8, and there was a ballpark type of bar setup on the middle of the platform selling beer and liquor. I was surprised to see it! If it's a way for the MTA/LIRR to make money so they don't have to cut our LIRR service, then keep it going!

Most of the regulars know each other by name or sight. There are three subgroups, they say, namely:
* The garment center people, who arranged the fishing expedition.
* The Wall Street contingent, who stand in the vestibule near the bar.
* An assortment of others who choose the chaos and high spirits, even if it means passing up the 5:30 train. 'No Other Car Like It'
The first and second group are gone..laid off and never really coming back. Brooklyn trains have been particularly affected by the lack of the Wall Street crowd. No more brokers and broker assistants pontificating about their "book of business" like they were the titans of the financial industry. Probalby all working as night managers at McDs now.
Good riddance to that drunken loud group.
you really come off as a miserable person...
in b4 a mod wipes this...
although, before you wipe this, take a look at his/her comments... they are offensive to people who enjoy the bar cart

During peak they're down on all the Penn Station platforms as well. Red carts with beer and liquor staffed by folks wearing button up LIRR shirts. My LIRR bartender is great, always has a warm greeting and a cold Foster's pulled out of the ice without having to ask...hmmm, Xmas card and tip next year, definately .
I think anyone who would find my comments "offensive" toward those who "enjoy" the bar cart might themselves just have a little drinking problem.
Ah, the true motivation reveals itself. The most distasteful thing about your puritanical, righteous posts are their deep contempt for ordinary people and the choices they make.
It is a part time job taking rights away from your fellow citizens. Maybe it makes you feel in control. Maybe it makes you feel superior. Or maybe you just want to bully someone. Some "causes" become life lines to the otherwise unseen and bored person.
When I raised my voice to say that drunk driving enforcement was politically motivated, I was bombarded by those who believed I was a drunk, previously convicted of DWI or, simply, not Politically Correct. Now that I express an opionion that the LIRR is a commuter railroad and not a bar/restaurant I'm accused of being puritanical, righteous and violating others rights.
Ive been on the 6:33 Babylon train and once "accidently" sat in the bar car right near the bar. Very boisterous car. I can see it being fun if you know people. They are definitely loud.
I gotta give them credit though, that same day I left my phone on the train when I got off at Seaford and a fellow passenger that got off with me was able to phone somebody still on the train. Picked up my phone at Massapequa. Lucky to have some nice people around.
Thanks for the memories. I used to take the diesel out of Hunterspoint Avenue with the big bar car. It was a lot of fun. As an aside, in those days, the diesel trains to the city from Northport did not have doors, so if you were late you could literally jump on the train as it was leaving the station.

i've done that...
also when pulling into the stations, the first man at the door had a leg hanging out and would jump off before the train stopped ... good times

I don't see anything wrong with a bar car, as long as people don't drive home drunk or make a mess of the train. I think that would be a good stress-reliever for people. I personally don't drink, but I can understand why people like to after work.
