You are making a great choice to move to Long Island. Long Island has everything you could want; a city on one end, rural farms on the other. Its as well just doesnt have good looks, but is such a great place to have kids and grand children. I am a resident of Smithtown, but i recommend a less populated place if thats what you desire. Eatons Neck is a great area, pricy tax wise, but it's beautiful. Not far from Northport or Huntington, Northport with old street car tracks showing, and Huntington showing its age with blue histroical signs every which way you look. They have shopping, beautiful parks, and Eatons Neck, private beaches. Other places you may want to look into are Stony Brook, or various towns in Nassau County on the the North Shore. Smithtown, with new construction down by the Nissequage river near a beautiful golf course, Smithtown Landing, is a great place to look int. Go to MLSLI.com, its a great site!

For those of you who are local, today's Newsday Real Estate section has an article on "6 downtowns worth buying in".

Long Island doesn't have looks ??? The rocky north shore beaches , the rich colors of the North Fork farms and wineries , the winding hills of Centerport, the majesty of the ocean , the unspoiled Pine Barrens ? Our charming little towns like Port Jefferson and Babylon ? Not have looks ?

Rocky Point NY 11778

Great Schools/Reasonable Taxes/Miles of Beachfront/Breathaking Waterviews/5000 Acre Nature Preserve/Gateway to the North Fork and the Pine Barrens (and only 60 mi from NYC) but above all a SOLID sense of community and a humble pride that can only be described as inspiring.

Best buy on the North Shore.

We're proud to call it home.

Is Franklin Square reasonably priced for a smaller home? I love Oceanside and Rockville center too

Millenia98, I never took you to be a necromancer

The thread has been dead for 3 years -- chances are the OP has found a home by now and is hopefully not underwater.

Don't count out the nicer areas of brooklyn and queens either. Forest hills, park slope, cobble hill, sunnyside, the rockaways, sheepshead bay, the list goes on. All the advantages of living in new york city without the manhattan price tag. Good schools, good restaurants. And you don't need a car if you don't want one.
