If anyone is from these districts, let me know what you think. I have heard more good things from Three Village but according to Newsday, Times, etc. Half Hollow Hills gets better test scores in most categories. Is HHH proximity to "less reputable" school districts like Wyandanch (ranked 675th out of 695 school districs in the state) a potential problem down the road? HHH more diversity compared to Three Village which I like but might not be necessarily better.

Thanks.

Id go 3V.

IMHO much nicer area and surrounds.
(Would you rather have Port Jefferson and St James as neighbors and border 25a or Wyandanch and Weatley Heights and border the LIE Service Rd?)

Outstanding SD that is fairly diverse for the area.
WMHS is a factory for Intel grads.

Great QOL.
No contest...3V.

School district wise it is no contest. In favor of HHH.

As far as the surrounding areas, there are sketchy areas close to 3V, and there are beautiful areas around HHH. I would THINK that for resale HHH is also better because it's commutable to the city, it gives you access to more buyers, where 3V is in the sticks.

Unbiased opinion, I have no direct experience with either district. But you are correct that HHH has better overall data, and that's the one I'd go with of the 2. (But I would go with CSH or Harborfields over either of them, not that you asked.)

Still rather be in 3V area.

Ill take Old Field over CSH in a heartbeat.

Its all old money anyway out there.
Hardly the sticks (Unless your from Nassau trying to justify 12k in taxes for 40x100) ...I dont think theyre too worried about the commute to NYC.

FWIW Heres the much skewed Newsday list by AP
Long Island Schools - Test scores, school programs - Newsday.com
3V is 12/ HHH is 27& 33

Now if its schools that matter...Mt Sinai is looking damn good lately.
Similar to Dix Hills in housing stock (McMansions) but decidedly North Shore.

You can keep Dix Hills and the Service Rd, way overrated/priced.

JMHO

I don't think you've spent much time "out west." Most of Melville and Dix Hills is far from "McMansions." And while I think Old Field is great, it's a far cry from Cold Spring Harbor.

Looking at the data of percentage going on to 4-year colleges:
Both HHH schools beat 3V.

Half Hollow Hills West (84.5%)
Half Hollow Hills East (79.9%)
Ward Melville (74.9%)

All three are great schools but my vote would be for HHH.

Ive spent considerable time "out west".
(If E Northport/Melville and Lloyd harbor count)

Like CSH, Nissequogue/Strongs Neck/OldField/Poquott are all pretty amazing guy.
As is old Stony Brook, Setuaket E. Setauket etc etc etc.

Again 3V ...for reasons too numerable to count.
District is amazing, great QOL.
Less Dix too.

Youre right they are.

Execept Newsday ranks by Advanced Designation and WMHS beats them both... easily.
3V is #12/ HHH are #27& 33

Like I said, WMHS is Suffolk/s clearing house for Westinghouse/Intel scholars.

It really depends on what youre looking for, numbers never tell the whole story, You got to dig deeper and the Intel thing for me is pretty impressive.

I guess biases come into play when looking at these rankings.
That's true that 3V is really awesome when it comes to math/science related stuff.. that was the school in Suffolk County we feared in math competitions- not Cold Spring Harbor, Harborfields, or HHH..
I personally hate how Oceanside isn't even in the Top 50 for Advanced Designation.. but it's #16 for percentage of students they send to college,
