I have used the same firm to grieve my property taxes for the last 20 years and am thinking about changing. While my property taxes are not the highest in the area, I believe they should be lower.
Do it yourself and save the 40%. You go to the website and click on 3 similar to your property that sold for less than yours. It is the exact website the professionals use.
I used Maidenbaum for years but last year did it myself and kept the money I saved.

Can anyone share which firm they prefer and why?
Thanks
I’ve used empire for years (and won every year even once in appeal court) . Any of the big firms are pretty much the same IMO. You can of course do it yourself, the initial process is pretty simple but if you rejected it becomes much more of a PITA if you want to appeal without a firm
I did it myself as a new resident last year after watching Jeff Gold’s videos. It’s really quite easy and didn’t take that long. My first time doing it, they accepted slightly higher than I asked for. I will save about $2k in taxes, half of which would’ve gone to one of the firms.

That's a shame. Sounds like grieving taxes becomes a necessity.

It's a scam in Nassau, you have to grieve. In Suffolk its done by townships not the county and it's very hard to win. I knew my Nassau home was screwed in 2017 when reassessment was announced. Taxes where 12k they are now 17k. You can win a grievance and Nassau and have your taxes still increase. It's easy to do it yourself and I won 7 out of 8 times I did it for myself and my mom in Nassau.

Yep. I win grievances every year and I still get increases. Basically it slows them down, instead of going up 600 it may only go up 100 etc. The only time my taxes actually went down was the first grievance I did forever ago. If I didn’t grieve at all I’d easily be paying 16-17k right now. Oh and the assessment didn’t change much, the first year I lost then won on appeal, have won every year since, rinse repeat
