What a surprise, the MTA board voted yes to increase fares...
I'm shocked....... <sarcasm>
it's ludicrous that they even hold public meetings to discuss the fare hikes. We all know the outcome way in advance.
I wonder if the MTA will ever consider having a graduated fare system on the subways.
Right now you can go from the North Bronx to Jamaica for $2.75 (soon to be $2.90), but it costs close to seven bucks to cross a .7 mile bridge that was built in 1937.

Come now, if you are rich enough to drive a car into NYC, you have the money to pay to subsidize those who rely on the MTA's wonderful, safe, clean subway system. /sarcasm

It’s barely an increase. 15 cents. It’s too high already but this small amount means nothing. The bad thing is if you’re married with a couple of kids, it will cost about $12 to get on a subway to go one or two stops. $24 round trip. That’s a lot for something that should be a few bucks. It’s public transportation. How the hell can poor or older people on a fixed income afford to go anywhere?

a fifteen cent increase after eight years isn't exactly horrific.

LIRR fares going up also. That's sure to help get people back in the office.
Yeah. Esp since people headed to Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan still have no direct trains, no scheduled connections and have to clinb up and down 63 stairs and walk the length of the platform in Jamaica without any handicap accessible elevators or escalators to get to and from the Brooklyn shuttles. Less service. Longer wait times. Less convenience. Overcrowded trains. Longer trips due to fewer trains and missed connections. They should be giving discounts out to anyone still forced to use them. Discounts and apologies. Btw still no wifi access on board.

They're also stopping with the 20-trip, which for commuters like me means a 20% increase in fares on top of the 4%.
