Hi,
Can anyone tell me anything about how Farmingville has changed since 1954. I lived on Abner Drive for many years. Abner Drive was a sand road with no electricity. They were the good old days. My house was the only one the whole length of Abner Drive. It use to be a summer vacation place for mostly the people from NY. I was born in New York. Hope someone out there will answer me. I would appreciate it so much. I will be 70 in June and would like to hear about my town. My name is Peggy Costello Baldwin.

Moderator cut: Sorry, Peggy. But no private e-mails. Anyone can PM you, though through this very site.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Farmingville

For those who may not be familiar with Farmingville:

Farmingville is a hamlet (an unincorporated community) in the center part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the center part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Farmingville in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Centereach, the Hamlet of Selden and the Hamlet of Coram; on the east by the Hamlet of Coram and the Hamlet of Medford; on the south by the Hamlet of Medford and the Hamlet of Holtsville; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Centereach.

The Hamlet of Farmingville has a different border than does the "Farmingville, NY 11738" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Farmingville, NY 11738" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Farmingville and a place can have other than a "Farmingville, NY 11738" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Farmingville): places that have a "Farmingville, NY 11738" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Farmingville are in the Hamlet of Centereach, the Hamlet of Selden and the Hamlet of Holtsville; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Farmingville with a "Centereach, NY 11720" and "Holtsville, NY 11742" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): https://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

My grandfather is almost exactly the same age as you, 70 in July. He grew up in Farmingville from about 1950- 1956. I'll private message you with the name.

Portion Rd has become a little more developed but town has been hurt like others because of killer housing market. Unfortunately by the corner of route 83 and portion rd. is a 7 eleven which has been a controversial area because of the constant battle with illegal aliens.Lots of protestors and an area where illegals are picked up for cheap labor. Sorry--

Thank you for the information. I forget where portion rd. is? Where is it from Abner Drive? Is the fire station still on the corner of Abner Dr.? There is so much I'd like to know. I don't want to bother you too much. Yes, it is so sad. It use to be such a nice place.

At least I don't post the same question 1000 times a week. What did I say wrong? The OP made 9 posts ever. Doubt he/she looks at this forum. I wasn't insulting, unlike you, just stating a fact.

Lol just stating how pathetically bitter you are. No offense obviously. And again if I have questions I have the right to ask regardless of what you may think. Sorry buddy. Lol
