OK, as usual just like Thanksgiving I donate to the local food drive at all supermarkets. This time it was sponsored by the Boy Scouts. As usual, I donate bags and bags full of groceries. 70% of my grocery bill was for the food drive.
I understand it’s a County issue, but King Kullen really?......at least suck up the .5 bag tax!
I understand they sold out for millions and every penny counts, but really? Trust me, it not about the .25 in bags I spent.
It is very generous to donate what you did but I don’t understand the complaint about the nickel per bag. KK has no monetary interest in the drive and it is a county fee, not a KK fee. Complaining about the nickel is like complaining that the US Post Office isn’t waiving the required stamp fee for mailing in a donation through the mail. KK is a business whose sole purpose is to make a profit. BTW, they are all closing. So, for them to pick up the fee of the bags could wind up costing them thousands of dollars over multiple stores. They should not be expected to do that.
The point of the bag fee is to deter you from using those bags.
+1 to u for donating
-1 to u for donating and then bragging about it...one should be humble and not seek credit for such acts
-1 for complaining about the bag fee
-1 for not bringing reusable bags.

Well, it's a County requirement, but not a County fee; KK keeps the entire 5¢ for a bag that probably cost them a penny or less. So yes, they could easily throw you a few bags for the food drive and not collect and retain the fee. But they'd probably say it's too hard to audit, prevent abuse, etc, etc.
The merchants, especially the big guys, are loving this fee that they keep for themselves.

Try again next time, don't tell anyone, and it probably will go unpunished. And, you'll feel better about it too.
Very good advice, will do!
