I and my husband are looking to buy a house on harvard street in hempstead. I have read so much bad reviews about hempstead but they are pretty old. I need a much recent review about the village of hempstead. Is it still very dangerous to live in or it is better. We currently live in brooklyn. Thanks

It’s a scary place. I personally hate even driving through it...

It's not great. Some areas are ok. Some are total hood.

Have you used Google Street Maps to virtually drive the neighborhood? That should give you an idea. If homes or businesses around the house you are considering are run down or shuttered that will tell you something.

Slightly safer than Brownsville or East New York.

I never felt anywhere on Long Island to be all that dangerous. Not sure why, but bad sections of Long Island can't touch those in Jersey, or even Connecticut.

It's still high crime for LI standards and it can be pretty hood in some parts, but living your day to day life you will most likely be fine.

As I am not familiar with Harvard Street, I myself took a Google Street Views tour.

You guys really think ppl moving from Brooklyn to Hempstead would have a problem? Smh.

Thanks everyone for taking time to respond. I took a walk around the neighborhood in the day, I thought it was more serene compared to east new york i live in. I only got freaked out when i saw the older reviews which made me put this post up.
