No gas hook up in my area. A while back I inquired. The gas company said "well, if you can get 30+ Homes in your area to convert, it might be worth it for us to run the lines"
I didn't know I was partners with the gas company.
Oh that's too bad. I already had gas for hot water and cooking but had oil for heat.
None of you have the ability to convert to natural gas? I am so glad not to have oil for heat.
Anyone know of a good way to compare how much you'd save by converting to gas? I figured it would cost about $10,000 (town of Huntington) to complete it. Not sure how many years it'll take for the conversion to pay off.
Looking at national grid, they're saying oil is $4 a gallon, but I paid around $2 a gallon last year, and looks like that's what people are getting this year:

$10,000 is about right, but since I already had gas hooked up for stove and hot water I basically just had to pay for a new gas boiler and labor which was about $3500 in 2008. My MIL paid around $10,000 2 years ago. She had propane for cooking and oil for hot water and heat. she had to have a complete conversion, plus her old oil tank had to be removed.
Got quoted $2.89 on a ceiling plan from Meenan on a renewal. $99.95 service contract.
Was paying $2.09 last year as a new customer. Would rather not shop around but, .80 a gallon more is ridiculous.
Eh you gotta play the game. I've been with Meenan for 5 years now and every year I threaten to walk because of the price increase and they give me the new customer pricing. I usually butter it up with how I love their service and hate their competition, and that last thing I would want to do is make that move. That typically gets things moving.
